Sermon Notes from the Holy Spirit

Faith comes by hearing...doesn't it?  But any good advertising campaign will pound you day after day with the same message until, whether it is truth or not, it will become truth for those who have ears to hear.  You see it every day as you open up your email and find another heart warming story or a "You need to read this!" in your inbox.  Sometimes those emails are truth and sometimes they are not...just empty false words which circulate the Internet from year to year causing near fatal heart attacks to those who do not check out whether they are true or false.

Yet, for those of us who are sceptical, it is within our nature to make sure what we are getting in the mail or email is legit.  When we do get the "facts" we are confident that what we have learned is correct.

Isn't is rather humorous (tongue in cheek) that when we read, "by His stripes we are healed," we attach escape clauses just in case it is not truth...for us.  It may be truth for some worthy individual we know...some godly saint who has stayed the course and been faithful...oh, but they suffered sickness...so I'm confused!

The funny thing about truth is that it is truth.  We know the earth is round and not flat.  That is a truth.  Those who teach and act as though it is flat we call ignorant or fools...for it is, after all, scientific fact seen in pictures from space, so it is true.

But this one tiny phrase, "by His stripes we are healed," trips us up even though we know it to be "Bible".

Have you ever had one of those obvious moments with God that made a fuzzy truth become a clear truth?

This was the case for me this week, several times in fact, when the Holy Spirit asked me this question.  "Do you want to know the truth?"  Well of course I wanted to know the truth...especially in the area I was thinking about right before He asked me that question!  "Yes." "I am still your healer."

Okay God.  For all of those times I didn't see healing and for all of those time I did see healing, I know the truth, and on that truth I will stand.
